Cooking is the leading cause of home fires (NBC Today Show), which shows just how important it is to be aware of tips to keep you and your property safe while cooking and baking!

The below pamphlet from the Department of Fire Services shares some great facts and tips that can be used to help prevent cooking or baking fires from occurring.

*Did you know that most cooking fires happen due to stoves or ovens being left unattended? Be sure to keep watch and stand by while cooking or baking!
*Were you aware that checking your smoke detector regularly to make sure it is working properly can double the likelihood of surviving a home fire? Check your smoke detectors today and change batteries regularly!
*Do not move a pan that is burning to help prevent the fire from spreading. Also, putting a lid on a pan fire is the safest way to put out the fire! Do not try to put out the fire with water or a fire extinguisher.
*Turn pan and pot handles inward.
*Keep the doors of microwaves and ovens closed if a fire occurs.
*Keep appliances clean!
